Why menopause can make your mind feel harder to manage (and what helps)
Many women are surprised by how much menopause affects their mind — not just their body.
You might notice your thoughts feel harder to switch off, your patience is lower, or your confidence has dipped.
Things that never used to bother you can suddenly feel overwhelming.
It can feel unsettling — especially if you’ve always coped well before.

A personal note
This is something I understand not just professionally, but personally too.
In my 50s, I’ve experienced how much things can shift — and I see the same with many of my clients and friends. It’s more common than people often realise.
So if you’ve been feeling “not quite yourself”, you’re not imagining it.
⸻
What’s actually happening
There’s a real reason for this.
Changes in hormones — particularly oestrogen — can affect areas of the brain linked to mood, sleep and stress regulation.
This can leave your mind feeling more alert, more reactive, and more likely to overthink.
Add in poor sleep, and it’s easy to see how things can start to feel harder than they used to.
⸻
Why it can feel like a cycle
When your mind is busy, sleep is affected.
When sleep is affected, everything feels harder:
* thoughts feel louder
* patience is lower
* and it’s easier to feel overwhelmed
It can quickly become a cycle that’s difficult to break on your own.
⸻
What actually helps
What helps isn’t pushing through or trying to “get a grip”.
It’s helping your mind settle again.
That might include:
* having space to think things through clearly
* understanding what’s happening in your brain
* and giving your mind regular opportunities to switch out of that constant alert state

Where I come in
This is where Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help.
I work with many women going through this stage of life, helping their minds become calmer and more manageable again — so they can think more clearly, sleep better, and feel more like themselves.
It’s a practical, forward-focused approach, without needing to go over everything in detail.

If this sounds familiar, things can improve.
You don’t have to just put up with it or wait for it to pass.
If you’d like to talk it through, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
